Rug is an integral part of Tibetan household décor.
Presence of high-quality sheep wool in the Tibetan Plateau helped weave warm & lustrous rugs for ages. Tibetans value rug as a unique possession and it has its value based on its usage. In the monastery, rugs are used in the form of back rest cover to seat coverings as well as large rugs covering the major area of the prayer hall.
Traditionally Tibetans refer to the rugs as “sitting rug”. Rugs are rarely used on the floor of household. Every day households use rugs to decorate their bedding. Most common rug size is 3x6 which fits a modern-day twin bed.
Generations before us has endured immense hardship in introducing the Tibetan rugs to the West. To which we will continue to honor their contribution by promoting family-owned carpet enterprise in Nepal and India. In today’s date, Tibetan rug culture has served well to clients who appreciate both traditional and modern designs.
